Art studio in the woods

A rare insight into my set-up. An art studio in the woods.

Art studio in the woods

I went from a live-in art studio on an industrial estate in London with the view of a car park, to an art studio in the woods with a view of dear running around outside. It’s far from glamorous, almost as chaotic as Bacon’s studio, and pretty chilly over winter months. I love it.

I’ve never really enjoyed tidiness and find that a disorganised working space helps to breed imagery. The way I work is chaotic and I’ll often grab whichever paint tin or spray can is closest – meaning colour application can be spontaneous. I relish accidental marks and will throw paint towards canvases from the other side of the room. My art studio in the woods is perfect for me and my approach.
